Seven free concerts: the R.Pop festival returns to “normal” mode at the Haras de la Vendée

Let’s go for a second edition in the exceptional setting of the Vendée stud farm. The music festival R.Popcarried by the City of La Roche-sur-Yonreturns to the Department’s site but without health constraints.

Gone are the gauges. No more ticketing (as was the case in 2021). “The bar is making a comeback”, points out Aurélien Roho, municipal councilor.

In the pit, 2000 spectators will be able to stand. The 500-seat grandstand has been retained to make the festival accessible to all audiences.

He insists on three key words for this cultural highlight of the summer: “Conviviality, proximity and free access. »

“This 6and edition – there was no edition in 2020 – is a continuation of this festival which is an invitation to musical discovery”, adds Maximilien Schnel.

“The DNA of this festival is not to stack the headliners. This year, we return to the story of R.Pop. »

On the program for this 2022 edition, six outdoor concerts, artists from all over the world and a red thread: the universe of Afro-American music available in soul, jazz, Afro rhythms, gospel and electro.

The festival will open with Roberto Fonsecaa cuban jazman from the famous Buena Vista Social Club. “A brilliant pianist whom I have been following for several years”, confides Bénoît Bénazet. The artist runs the international stages and will play for the first time in Vendée on Tuesday June 28th. “I am convinced that the live is going to be incredible”.

will follow Wednesday, June 29 the seven musicians of the South African collective bcuc (pronounce Bacuc). A group programmed in 2020 during the festival that never took place…

“This musical formation will hit a lot of aesthetics; soul, rock, African rhythms… A contagious energy”, details the programmer who promises “the slap of the festival! »

Thursday, June 30make way for the electro-pop of General Electrics. The French Hervé Salters is known for having played the keyboards of Mathieu Chedid for a long time. “It’s a party, it’s joyful. Our own Stevie Wonder! »

A red thread: Afro-American music

Only female poster of the festival, the singer asa will take over the Haras stage on Tuesday 5 July. “A hymn to dance that borrows from pop”, describes Benoît Bénazet, “and an incredible voice”. In her latest album, the French artist traces her Nigerian origins.

Wednesday, July 6, place at Harlem Gospel Travelers with Eli Paperboy as a guest. At the crossroads of gospel and soul, this group comes for the first time to play in Europe on the R Pop stage. “It’s my favorite of 2021” breathes Benoît Bénazet.

Finally, on July 7, the English Joel Culpepper, a star of the British groove scene of the 2010s, will come to share his modern soul which mixes with talent the contemporary landscape of London where funk, jazz, grime and R’n’ B. “A wealth of influence totally in the DNA of R.Pop”.

Objective: 15,000 spectators

A constant budget of €200,000 is allocated to the organization of the R.Pop festival. The organizers expect 15,000 spectators on the six dates after a distorted year last year, because of the imposed gauges. In 2021, the festival had welcomed 5,700 spectators.

“We hope that the public will be at the rendezvous of this magical place and of curiosity, slips Benoît Bénazet, because we already know that attendance at major musical events is down by around 30%…”
