Printemps de Bourges, We Love Green, Nuits sonores… Our selection of festivals to head straight for summer

Chanson, rock, rap, electro… From April to June, France is covered with festivals, like a taste of summer. Between pocket concerts and big routs, we have selected the events not to be missed.

Spring of Bourges

From the Palais Jacques-Cœur, at W, at 22 and at the Halle au Blé, but also in the streets of the city, it will be good to see the stars of the moment (Clara Luciani, Dutronc son and father, Juliette Armanet, Eddy de Pretto, Sofiane Pamart, Kungs…) and stroll to discover the young talents of Les Inouïs before attending the Closing Night of the immense Brigitte Fontaine, who invites her friends for a last evening on stage, set to music with the very gifted percussionist Lucie Antunes. Another expected moment, the rereading of Céline Dion’s repertoire by Pomme and Safia Nolin (Of love and friendship) and, of course, the triple poster of strong characters, Fishbach, P.R2B, Mansfield. TYA.

From April 19 to 24, Bourges (18).

The Enchanters

Liévin, Bugnicourt, Tilloy-lès-Mofflaines… For twenty-two editions, the traveling festival Les Enchanteurs has criss-crossed Hauts-de-France from spring to summer with a poster between French song, neorealist, pop and reggae trends. Started since March 3, the festival offers two more concerts, from May 20 to June 4, then from June 22 to July 3. Two dates worth noting among others: the intimate and graceful pop of Girls in Hawaii (May 20 in Liévin), the ecstatic trance of Voodoo Game (Le 27, in Hénin-Beaumont).

From March 3 to July 3, various locations, Hauts-de-France.

Sound nights

When it was created in 2003, the festival, with the desire to animate the heritage sites and industrial wastelands of the former capital of Gaul, made no secret of drawing inspiration from the Nuits Blanches in Paris. But above all it had another model: Barcelona’s Sonar, the first major festival dedicated to electronic music, launched in 1994. A successful bet, since Nuits sonores has become this cutting-edge event where you can applaud the cult English DJ Harvey as well as that our pampers the French “tchatcheuse” Lala & Ace, mixing electro and the latest rap trends so well.

International University Music Festival

Every year, hundreds of students from all over the world come to share their passion for music. Sponsor of a 35and An edition that will give pride of place to the young Lebanese scene, Bachar Mar-Khalifé will notably present some of his favorites, spotted during the partner festival Beirut and Beyond. Among them: the pop singer POL, the rapper Romy, the improvised jazz duo Apartment 52 or the oriental electro duo Rust.

We Love Green

Frustrated – the word is weak – not having been able to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2021, the Ile-de-France eco-festival resumes its quarters in the Bois de Vincennes at the beginning of June, with a program equal to the eclecticism that we knew of before the pandemic, on the borders of rap, electro and song (and a little less rock), between headliners (Gorillaz, PNL, Angèle, Moderat…), popular voices (Clara Luciani, Juliette Armanet, Ibeyi , Selah Sue) and young dubbed shoots (Laylow, Jorja Smith, Arlo Parks…).

Festival Yeah!

In his small flowery village in the Luberon, Laurent Garnier mixes and entertains like at home. For the unlucky who have not managed to get a pass for the concerts at the castle (Lucie Antunes, Los Bitchos, Dombrance…), there will be free stages (Borja Flames, Mendelson), petanque aperitifs, car games – bumper cars heated by Moustic on the turntables (remember to book), or the family fiesta hosted by friends from Radio Meuh!

From June 3 to 5, Lourmarin (84).

Good parochialism

Few names on the poster, but meticulously chosen to create an atmosphere like a bubble, protected from the vagaries of the world, with beautiful music, food and choice wines since Fooding veterans are at the helm. In the depths of Aveyron, we can discover, in the setting of a village church, the pianist Chassol and the flautist Joce Mienniel on the first evening, the Icelandic musician Eydís Evensen and The String Quartet on the second.

For almost forty years, the Art Rock festival has been offering a fairly sharp, tasteful program, ideal for getting into shape before the festival season is in full swing. Today, he appeals to mainstream pop stars (Clara Luciani, Juliette Armanet, Phoenix, Laylow, Jane Birkin, etc.), while remaining faithful to his primary vocation, which is more rock and targeted: Peter Doherty, Kim Gordon , the Liminanas, Iceage, without forgetting some hexagonal revelations, from the grating Gwendoline to the luminous and sensitive November Ultra.

Decidedly, the first weekend of June is now one of the busiest. Vincennes, Saint-Brieuc, and why not Angers? Levitation is holding its ninth edition there, with a beautiful, rather sharp indie rock line-up (increasingly a rarity). British sensations – Dry Cleaning and Black Country, New Road – and almost sure US values – Kevin Morby, Kim Gordon, Death Valley Girls or the indestructible Brian Jonestown Massacre. With inevitably beautiful discoveries in addition, difficult to break the nose there.

Deer Festival

A change of scenery for the seventh edition of this Normandy pocket festival where “we meet friends and we don’t miss any group”. La Ferme de rai, a few kilometers from the Aigle station (shuttles are planned), will now welcome the 1,500 festival-goers expected each day. The artistic line, it does not move with a program dedicated to the young French-speaking scene. On the menu, explosive rock (Lulu von Trap, Ottis Cœur), rowdy electro (Ascendant Vierge) or naive (Jacques), padded pop (November Ultra)…

VYV festival

We must admit, we discover the existence of this Burgundian festival with its 2022 program to make more than one programmer pale: The Smile, Genesis Owusu, Idles, MIA, Shame, The Murder Capital, Véronique Sanson, Liam Gallagher… So many attractive names that make Vyv – its hedonistic name is also that of the organizer, a specialized group of actors from the social and solidarity economy (ESS) – an already recommendable festival, for its third edition only.

June 11 and 12, Parc de la Combe à la Serpent, Dijon (21).

Gone are the long nights and the concrete docks. Delighted with its move in 2021 to the verdant Borely Park near the Prado beaches, Marsatac is reinvesting in this lush garden for three days of celebration and music. If the big names in rap, house or techno stop there (Damso, Laylow, The Blessed Madonna, Laurent Garnier), we have often discovered the talents of tomorrow in the middle of a knowledgeable crowd. We will, among other things, confirm the good time spent in front of the piquant house of Charlotte Adigéry and Bolis Pupul.
