When the music is good, it is listened to with great attention. Sounds also allow you to travel in relation to what you hear. On this subject, Patrick Desforges, a native of Montreal, Quebec, knows more than one piece.

“I have always been a musician. I have toured Canada and the United States. I accompanied musicians and singers on stage”, says the one who settled in the country of Châteaubriant (Loire-Atlantique) in 2008.

Brittany lovers

“My wife is French. That’s why I came to France. I met him on a trip. As she found that it was too cold in Canada, it was I who came to settle in France. »

First living in Saint-Étienne (Loire) in 2000, Patrick Desforges intended, one day, to put his suitcases in Brittany.

“Saint-Étienne was not really my cup of tea. Their mentality wasn’t really my thing. I also have a big crush on Brittany. But, at the same time, one can quickly be isolated by living there. »

Finally, Patrick Desforges landed at La Chapelle-Glain (Loire-Atlantique), near Châteaubriant (Loire-Atlantique).

“In Châteaubriant, we are one hour from Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), Nantes (Loire-Atlantique), Angers (Maine-et-Loire) and Laval (Mayenne). This allowed me to find work in music everywhere. It so happens that currently, I work more in Ille-et-Vilaine and Loire-Atlantique than in Maine-et-Loire or Mayenne. I’ve been here for years, I feel great. »

“I was a music lover who listened to vinyl all day. I loved that. One day, I got started by borrowing my uncle’s guitar. I started to play a little on it. »

Extremely versatile

As a teenager, Patrick Desforges set up groups with high school friends. From the age of 18, his talent allows him to make a living from music. Musician in the studio, sound engineer, production of advertising music… the artist is versatile.

Today, the adopted Glainois is intermittent in the show. He alternates between musician performances with pop-rock groups that play Quebec music.

Patrick Desforges also prepares songs for weddings or children’s shows, and exchanges regularly with Frédéric Pithois, the director of the Théâtre de Verre de Châteaubriant (Loire-Atlantique).

“I really do everything. I have many projects. Recently, I signed a contract. I have to deliver 16 pieces of 20-minute music by next week for an indirect company of the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, NDLR). I have to produce frequency music. »

An album during confinement

In addition to all his projects, the music enthusiast has released an album oriented towards well-being and relaxation. It’s called 3oaksmusic (the music of the 3 oaks).

Seven titles for one hour of music were produced by him, with the help of his wife, in his studio at La Chapelle-Glain (Loire-Atlantique).

“I based myself on studies. Some frequencies do more good than others. »

For example, relaxation music has lower frequencies than classical style sounds. Listening to low frequency compositions would make you feel better.

“NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) realized that when the astronauts returned from a mission, they were all in bad shape, until they discovered that the Earth has a frequency, that of Schumann. It is 7 hertz. Thus, NASA has put devices to simulate this frequency of 7 hertz so that the astronauts return with a smile. »

Following the viewing of documentaries and information on relaxation and well-being music, Patrick embarked on the production of his record during the first confinement, in 2020.

“Music like that, I’ve always wanted to make it. But, perhaps for lack of time, I had never started. As there was no more show during the first confinement, the opportunity was great to set this up. »

High demand for his CD

Its production is a hit in the United States and Canada. “It works better than I thought. I have a lot of private orders. »

Health professionals also bought his album.

“Many therapists in Canada call me for commissions or to produce custom music. I have very good feedback. »

The album is to be found on his website (to be found below). “It is downloadable in MP3 version. I can also send it by post,” he explains.

Present on the internet and social networks, the Canadian also wants to weave his web in the country of Châteaubriant. Projects will be launched when the health crisis is over.

“I would like to do concerts with 3oks, maybe in a year, if the sanitary conditions improve. The objective would be to create shows with several musicians on stage. “Very specific places are targeted.

“It could be at the Château de Châteaubriant, or in a cathedral. The goal would be to go to places that fit that type of music. I worked at the Châteaubriant conservatory. I will discuss with them to find out if they want to participate in this project. »

Patrick Desforges

Thanks to his travels and his spirit of curiosity, Patrick Desforges has several strings to his bow. He knows both European and American music.

A preference for European music

“The difference is explained by the mix, the type of music arrangement, the anomic structure and the choice of instruments. These elements make it possible to differentiate European sounds from American sounds”.

He gives examples of singers: “Maria Carey is very American in terms of sound, production and way of singing. Conversely, the Beatles sounded like Europe”.

Between the two productions, the musician has a preference. “Clearly, I prefer the European sound. In America, it’s overproduction. The voice is excessively manipulated. I prefer that the voice is not super-clean, but that it is the person who sings without faking. »

The linguistic culture and musical knowledge of Patrick Desforges would make it possible to offer a quality show. We look forward !

Price of the album: 10 euros, postage included.
