Bullet Train

From the beginning of August, we will be able to find in dark rooms Bullet Train, the new film by David Leitch (to whom we owe in particular Atomic Blonde or Deadpool 2). The pitch? An unlucky assassin called Ladybug and played by Brad Pitt embarks on a new mafia mission, determined not to get out of hand this time around. Obviouslynothing will happen and our clumsy killer finds himself stuck in a train doing Tokyo-Kyoto alongside other formidable murderers, with the objective of recovering a strange suitcase : a hair-raising action film with an offbeat tone and a slick visual aspect, drawing on both the Hollywood spirit and the Japanese one, with big neon lights to back it up. It may be worth it.

  • Cinema release : August 3, 2022
  • Director : David Leitch
  • With : Brad Pitt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Joey King, Michael Shannon

One Piece: Red

While waiting for the live-action adaptation, One Piece will be in our cinemas this August with a brand new animated feature film. We can find Luffy and his crew (still happy): as a music festival is about to begin, the most popular singer in the world Uta then reveals the incredible power of her voice, which could well change the world . The problem is that it is the daughter of the famous Hanks Le Roux, a pirate that the public of One Piece knows only too well since Captain of the Roux Crew and one of the Four Emperors. We should find the soul of the franchise there as well as a few angry fights.

  • Cinema release : August 10, 2022
  • Director : Goro Taniguchi
  • With : Hiroaki Hirata, Mayumi Tanaka, Akemi Okamura

Boop

One Piece Red, Bullet Train, Esther 2... the films to see in theaters in August 2022

Director Jordan Peele is now igniting the world’s curiosity, and for good reason: he frankly stood out with his critically acclaimed psychological horror films Get Out and Us. Nope is then in the same line – we also find Daniel Kaluuya – and offers a very dark, very strange story that should cause some chills. The pitch therefore takes us to a lost valley in the depths of California, while residents find themselves facing a strange supernatural force that could be the cause of many evils. : the tone is, once again, damn disturbing and there is no doubting the director’s ability to offer a mature, truly original and well-trimmed story. Nope, we say yes.

  • Cinema release : August 10, 2022
  • Director :Jordan Peele
  • With : Daniel Kaluuya, Steven Yeun, Michael Wincott

On the other side of the sky

One Piece Red, Bullet Train, Esther 2... the films to see in theaters in August 2022

If you like Japanese animated films that throw off with a monstrously stylish universe, then you’ve probably come to the right place. On the other side of the sky is an adaptation of the book Poupelle, released in Japan two years ago and from which France finally gets this month. We follow the adventures of Lubicchi, a little chimney sweep living in the middle of tall chimneys whose thick smoke constantly covers the sky of his city: only here, he, he is convinced that there are stars on the other side and when he meets a funny creature on Halloween night named Poupelle, they will go to the heavens by any means possible. A dreamy and definitely luminous story, with a flamboyant artistic direction and which could well hit the mark.

  • Cinema release : August 17, 2022
  • Director : Yusuke Hirota
  • With : Philippe Katerine, Masataka Kubota, Fanny Bloc

The Last Days in the Desert

One Piece Red, Bullet Train, Esther 2... the films to see in theaters in August 2022

If you liked seeing Obi-Wan McGregor hanging out in a beige tunic in the desert with Obi-Wan Kenobi, imagine that the actor is back for a similar experience… but not in the skin of a Jedi. The Last Days in the Desert retraces the journey of a man lost in the middle of the sands, walking tirelessly in the hope of finding his way back. On his way, he will meet a demon as well as a family fighting for its survival – above all, he will be more than once on the verge of madness, talking to himself and finding himself subject to many hallucinations. An atmospheric, solitary and introspective journey led by Rodrigo García, author of the feature films Nine Lives, Mother and Childs and Albert Nobbs.

  • Cinema release : August 17, 2022
  • Director : Rodrigo Garcia
  • With : Ewan McGregor, Tye Sheridan, Ciarán Hinds

Esther 2: Origins

One Piece Red, Bullet Train, Esther 2... the films to see in theaters in August 2022

In 2009, we were treated to the horror film Esther, which featured a damn creepy little girl, recently adopted but unfortunately for her new family with a penchant for murder and psychological torture. If you’ve ever seen the feature film, then you know it was actually about a thirty-three-year-old adult with hypopituitarism, a rare form of dwarfism that prevents her from aging physically. Ether 2 Les Origines, as its name suggests, therefore takes us a few years earlier, when Esther escapes from a psychiatric hospital and manages to climb to America. On the program: assassinations, a Machiavellian atmosphere and a few tortured scenes that could well delight fans of the genre. Above all, it is an unexpected sequel thirteen years after the first film, which is necessarily to be emphasized.

  • Cinema release : August 17, 2022
  • Director : William Brent Bell
  • With : Isabelle Fuhrman, Julia Stiles, Rossif Sutherland

Vesper Chronicles

One Piece Red, Bullet Train, Esther 2... the films to see in theaters in August 2022

You’ll take another big sci-fi blockbuster, right? In this post-apo film where civilizations have collapsed, what remains of humanity has taken refuge in citadels cut off from the world while the others are left to their own devices in a particularly hostile nature. This last case concerns in particular the young Vesper, who lives in the woods with her father but whose talents as a “bio-hacker” nevertheless give her a certain ambition: when a ship from the citadels then crashes in the area, it is all his destiny which is seen jostled. Note that Vesper Chronicles is not a Hollywood film since Belgian-Franco-Lithuanian, moreover selected and presented in official competition at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2022. That turns out to be damn interesting.

  • Cinema release : August 17, 2022
  • Director : Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper
  • With : Raffiella Chapman, Eddie Marsan, Rosy McEwen, Richard Brake

Beast

One Piece Red, Bullet Train, Esther 2... the films to see in theaters in August 2022

Idris Elba is back: Beast is a brand new movie coming towards the end of August with a big bad guy to introduce us to, namely…a hungry lion. And really very lifted. More precisely, the context is planted in South Africa where Dr. Nate Daniels is spending a vacation there with girls, within a nature reserve. Unfortunately for them and all the humans there, a big cat hunted down and abused by poachers begins to eat anyone who stands in its way. Thus begins a struggle for survival for the father of the family, who will have to take up arms in the middle of the bush to shelter those who love him: the film is notably directed by the man behind Viking, Reykjavik, Everest or 2 more guns.

  • Cinema release : August 24, 2022
  • Director : Baltasar Kormakur
  • With : Idris Elba, Sharlto Copley, Iyana Halley

Three thousand years waiting for you

One Piece Red, Bullet Train, Esther 2... the films to see in theaters in August 2022

Decidedly, Idris Elba will be on all fronts for this week of August 24! While he will also be playing Beast, the Englishman is announced for the casting of Three Thousand Years Waiting for You, a feature film with a five-star roaster and all the same designed by Mr. George Miller (Mad Max) . The story tells us that of Alithea Binnie (Tilda Swinton, probably still as effective) who comes across a genius (Idris Elba, therefore), the latter offering to grant him three of his wishes in exchange for his freedom. The genius then tells her his extraordinary story through the ages and cultures, pushing Alithea to formulate a particularly original wish: an ultra-colorful experience with a daring tone, almost wacky that will probably be worth the detour.

  • Cinema release : August 24, 2022
  • Director : George Miller
  • With : Idris Elba, Tilda Swinton, Aamito Lagum

Everything Everywhere All At Once

One Piece Red, Bullet Train, Esther 2... the films to see in theaters in August 2022

The multiverse, we are beginning to know the principle and the cinema is having a great time putting it on the front of the stage: it will also be at the center of the concept of Everything Everywhere All at One, with however a rather original angle and above all, without any superheroes! We thus find Michelle Yeoh in the skin of Evelyn Wang, a mother particularly dropped and crumbling on debts … until finding herself immersed in an infinity of parallel universes. She then has access to all the resources from the many versions of herself, exploring all the paths she could have taken: a veritable whirlwind that takes on yet another dimension when she finds herself facing strange threats, in more than the obligation to save his family. A more than interesting feature film that benefits from the expertise of both Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, not hesitating to offer a promising Chinese and American culture. Something to end the month of August in style, we hope.

  • Cinema release : August 31, 2022
  • Director : Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan
  • With : Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis
