Music & Wine (and youth) at Clos Vougeot from June 19 to 26, 2022

For his 14and edition, the Music & Wine festival at Clos Vougeot (June 19-26) brings together the best of the international scene and supports its young talents more than ever. An unmissable event, accessible without having your wallet picked off, which owes a lot to the friendship between Burgundy and the United States…

Freed from Covid gauges, masks and false notes, Music & Wine at Clos Vougeot will finally be able to deliver its usual score. Since its birth in 2008, the festival has trivialized the feat of bringing together, over a few days and with a really reasonable entrance ticket (from 35 to 100€), international artists at the top of their game, young musicians on the path of excellence, and the best of Burgundy wine within reach. All in places blessed by Bacchus: Clos de Vougeot castle of course, Saint-Vivant abbey, Meursault castle and church, Beaune market halls…

When asked the questionGautier Capuçon sets the tone: “ This festival is unique in the world. There is always something special happening here. The impeccable cellist has been, since last year, the artistic director of Musique & Vin, with his lifelong accomplice, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, a pianist baptized in pommard. (read our interview). Despite a schedule with several time zones and permanent requests, the two stars of their discipline are completely (a) tied to this event. They work hard to support young artists, faithful to the intentions of the founders Bernard Hervet, Aubert de Villaine and David Chan. This is the raison d’être of Musique & Vin.

Stock Exchange and Instrumental Fund

Because at the beginning of the story, there was nothing in the region to facilitate access to quality instruments », willingly recalls Bernard Hervet. And a violin, a viola or a cello that will do wonders, it amounts to at least between 12,000 and 45,000 euros depending on its finish, my good lady.

From the outset, therefore, the festival has supported young talents from all over the world, by dedicating a grant to them. Then added an instrumental fund, led by Daniel Weissmann, another pillar of the event, to have instruments made and loaned. This kind of blessing can launch a career: after an audition in Beaune, if he is deemed worthy, the budding artist receives this grail made by very high-level luthiers, for a period of one to three years, the time to hone your skills, bow in hand. This year, the Burgundian festival wants to take on this mission all the more in a context of great mess orchestrated by the covid. Bernard Hervet, who knows the backstage of the milieu, does not have the romanticism of a Brahms when drawing up the balance sheet: “ During all these months without concerts, some artists have simply stopped, unable to live from their art. »

Francesca Pia Vitale and Samuel Glicklich Young Talents 2022

From June 19 to 26, we will therefore encourage allegret these young prodigies. All those concerned accompanied by Musique & Vin (the list is long) pursue brilliant musical careers, whether they are singers or musicians. Pierre Génisson (clarinet) and Lisette Oropesa (soprano), who will be back this year, have become accomplished soloists and sought-after partners in chamber music. Young Talents 2022, Italian soprano Francesca Pia Vitale (soprano) and the very young American pianist Samuel Glicklicha protege of Jean-Yves Thibaudet at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, will follow in their footsteps and perform on June 25 during a free “carte blanche” concert in the halls of Beaune.

God bless America!

Without the generosity of some fifty partner Burgundian estates, without the unfailing Burgundian-American friendship, none of these adventures would be possible. ” This festival is well born, with a very healthy entourage, it is its great chance sums up its honorary president Aubert de Villaine. With Bernard Hervet, the Romanée-Conti winemaker never misses an opportunity to thank the American patrons, who devote a cult to the event and finance it in large part. Nothing could be more normal, after all: we are at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, the world temple of Burgundy wines, and the brotherhood of the Knights of Tastevin has rooted its stock across the Atlantic for a long time.

At the beginning of June, the two music lovers, who know each other at the time of transmission, will be in New York for a charity dinner with the young association Friends of Music & Wine. Among other bacchanalian festivities, an auction of several bottles of a Mazis-Chambertin 2019 is planned, from a piece purchased by the association at the Hospices de Beaune and aged by the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The funds raised will serve the Music & Wine cause and give life to all of this. God bless America!
