Program of the Munster Jazz Festival 2022

The 2022 program of the Munster Jazz Festival focuses on three days (27, 28 and 29 May), for a shorter edition than usual. But we will not lose quality, let it be said!

If the Munster valley is known for its gastronomy, what better than a gourmet walk to welcome the return of an emblematic festival? As an aperitif of the Munster Jazz Festival, meeting on Sunday May 22 in Breitenbach for this tasty outing, crowned by the Mundo Swing concert: an ensemble that has been paying homage since 2005 to the gypsy jazz repertoire, in the tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli… With a female voice as a bonus!

The heart of the festival is the weekend of May 27 to 29, starting on Friday May 27 with a double proposal between concert and film, at Le Saint-Grégoire cinema in Munster. At 20 o ‘clock, the trio of pianist Yacine Malekrevealed alongside the late Michel Petrucciani, enchants us between jazz and world, inspired by nature… The concert will be followed by a film by Clint Eastwood, Bird, biopic dedicated to Charlie Parker.

Saturday, May 28, go first to the Munster Media Library to two conferences with free entry, provided by the musician Gautier Laurent around the birth of jazz (at 2 p.m.), then on the arrival of jazz in France (at 5 p.m.). Here we are ready to join, at 8:30 p.m., the Salle des Fêtes for two concerts: energetic blues in septet with Little Mouse & The Hungry Catsand its sparkling singer, then vintage country-soul with Lowland Brothers.

The six ultra-experienced musicians (accompanists of Jacques Higelin, Lionel Ritchie, Coluche…) of Marty Dixie King are responsible for animating the streets of Munster throughout the weekend, ending on Sunday 29 at 3 p.m. at the Maison du fromage de Gunsbach… Gourmandise, when you hold us!

Saturday May 28

2 p.m.: The birth of an emblematic musical style, jazz
Youth conference by Gautier Laurent
Munster Media Library – Free admission

Born between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, jazz is the symbol of the music of the southern United States. Originally from New Orleans, it was first played by black Americans who had just lived through centuries of slavery and servitude and who only aspired to one thing: freedom.

5 p.m.: France, a land of welcome for Americans
Lecture by Gautier Laurent
Munster Media Library – Free admission

France already knew ragtime. But it was in 1918, with the arrival of the Americans on the front, that she really got to know this music. To support the morale of the troops, the orchestra of the 369th infantry regiment of the United States army, conducted by James Reese Europe, will give concerts throughout France.

8:30 p.m.: Lowland Brothers + Little Mouse & The Hungry Cats
Party hall in Munster – 20€

Essential revelation of the blues scene, Little Mouse & The Hungry Cats ignites the public wherever she goes. Each performance leaves behind a highly energetic and jubilant trail of powder. Nothing can overcome the dynamism of Claire, the sparkling singer.

After years in the service of vintage blues, singer-guitarist Nico Duportal explores country-soul with a new group, the Lowland Brothers. Old and rooted music, which the group regenerates and takes off with the grace of a captivating production.
