This Monday evening, Bonnie Tyler’s concert, in Pamiers, allowed all generations to come together for a cultural and gay moment, successfully orchestrated by the town hall with the support of the festival committee.

Young people, less young people and a jubilation that carries all generations. At least 1,200 people gathered this Monday evening on the Castella hillock to cheer Bonnie Tyler, the Welsh singer with an inimitable voice.

But how many of them know that this long-awaited concert, the only one in France of the international star in 2021, almost did not take place. Not because of the health crisis and its share of restrictions, but because of a – temporary – loss of the tour team’s luggage that remained in the plane’s hold.

Left by mistake in the hold of the plane which conveyed them on the tarmac of Blagnac, the musical instruments could be repatriated in time.

Inside, the instruments of the musicians or even the earpieces of this great lady. But despite her 50-year career, Bonnie Tyler is not a capricious star. She was ready to play at all costs in this “small place” that is Pamiers, reminding us on stage that she too is from a small town. And that’s good because his audience sometimes came from afar. “I can’t say it’s a dream but it’s the first time I’ve attended one of his concerts and it’s a very special moment. We don’t have a lot of opportunities to see her and we are very happy to be there, ”comment in chorus – and in English – two couples of sixty-something British living near Saint-Gaudens. A few meters away, a lady gets carried away: “It’s our generation! ” Yes, but not only.

In the audience, all generations were represented.

“We grew up listening to his songs”

Aurore and Marine, aged 25 and 27, also believe that it is their “musical culture”. “We grew up listening to her songs, we didn’t want to miss her. She’s not just anyone: she’s a great artist! And for 25 €! It’s really not excessive, ”insist the two young Appameans who shouted, like many, on the famous title Total Eclipse Of The Heart which had hoisted Bonnie Tyler to the top of the charts around the world. It was the year 1983. In 2021, the tube still has as much echo.

It must be said that the artist still has a chest despite his 70 years. It’s the Heartache or Have You Ever Seen the Rain? also entertained the crowd. But like a tribute to the 80s that forged this indestructible career, the Welshwoman of course played the titles of her latest album The Best Is Yet to Come. Synths roar, arms flirt with the sky, smartphones never miss a beat. Music has just recorded its big comeback in Pamiers.

Both raised it on stage: the alliance of the Ariégeois of the Pabloramix trio in the first part of a pop rock artist did not seem quite self-evident. “But we are against the barriers,” quips Paul, the singer with a gangsta rap repertoire. When Bonnie Tyler describes the group as “fantastic”. “Even if it’s not necessarily the music I listen to,” she smiles. But for the town hall of Pamiers, this choice was almost symbolic. “While the world of culture was still at a standstill, it was the Pabloramix Trio who inaugurated the artistic residencies at the Jeu-du-Mail and I want to say how proud I am of the municipal teams, in particular of the direction of cultural affairs”, launched Frédérique Thiennot, mayor of the city.

Sunday, despite the mishap encountered at Blagnac airport with her luggage and those of her team, the Welsh singer arrived all smiles at Pamiers around 5 p.m.

After a short rejuvenating break following her trip – she was in concert in Alicante, Spain, the day before – Bonnie Tyler and her musicians spent the evening at the Hôtel de France. Philippe and Sonia Raja thus offered him the vintage of the house which was very appreciated by the international star. Frédérique Thiennot and Jean-Luc Lupiéri, his deputy for culture and heritage, were also there. And the mayor of the city came with full arms.

The artist thus received a basket filled with all the Ariège products not to be missed, not to mention a beret with the 09 logo from the Sire hat shop, the oldest business in Pamiers. A symbolic gift which was the occasion of sacred laughter during a session of selfies, as here with Frédérique Thiennot and Sébastien Gonzalez, the director of cultural affairs.
