Night of the fire or the horse, festivals, shows, honey or threshing festival and concerts of all kinds, the month of August will be rich in the county city. A short, non-exhaustive overview.
Opened yesterday with the first performance of the new show “Foix, land of history” (see our August 2 issue), the month of August is getting more involved in a program of events with multiple appointments, starting tomorrow with the opening of the very rich Ingénieuse Afrique festival, whose many proposals will take place in the historic center, from the behind the town hall at the grain hall, with a small detour through the Passéjade garden (our edition of yesterday). And that’s just the beginning…
flames in the night
From Monday, the Théâtre de Verdure de l’Espinet will be set on fire there from 10 p.m. for the Night of Fire, a show concocted by the company Les Spyros, from the troupe of “Foix, land of history”. For several years, the troupe has invited a friendly company to make the flames dance with it; this year, it will be the company A Venir. On the program, choreography, juggling, acrobatics in the service of a show lasting nearly two hours.
The Leo stays on summer time

Threshing festival and honey fair at the Forges de Pyrène
A traditional summer event, the Threshing Festival will take place on August 11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Forges de Pyrène. On the program, demonstrations of old-fashioned wheat threshing, mini-farm, discovery of trades of yesteryear with the living workshops of the Forges, and many other surprises and activities between the threshers and the bullock carousel.
Honey will replace wheat on August 15 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the occasion of the honey fair, all with Pyrenean flavors, organized by the Beekeeping Union of Ariège. Beekeepers will of course be present to answer questions from visitors. Access and parking are free, information on 06 86 77 12 96.
“Cor to horn” at the abbey church
This is an original meeting offered by David Rossi, solo horn of the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra and performer from Biert, on August 14 at 8 p.m. in the Saint-Volusien church: “A horn story”, it’s is a cine-recital lasting more than an hour that retraces the entire history of the instrument, from its origins to the present day, through a multimedia film accompanied by a narration and a horn player on stage . Sea conch, alphorn, hunting horn or olifant, almost all the horns parade from table to table during this unusual show.
Do you like horses? that’s good. Two horse shows lasting 1h15 will be offered on August 14 and 15 at 5 p.m. by “Foix, land of history”: a western show on the conquest of the American West by the company Willow Horse Show, on Sunday , and a burlesque chivalry tournament by the Manes of Evol on Monday.
The Night of the Horse will take place on August 19, at 9 p.m. at the Théâtre de Verdure in Espinet, with a new show shared between humor and aerobatics, “Horses and Men”. Snack bar and snacks on site, information and reservations on 07 81 31 16 24 or on www.equi-nox.fr.
Finally, the horses will be mechanical and Japanese for the 6th meeting of the Foix Motors Show, on August 21 from 9 a.m. in the Decathlon car park. The entrance to this “gathering of atypical vehicles” is free and you will find a food truck there… and a tattoo artist.
Place for concerts
Finally, it’s time for concerts, with the 7th edition of Concerts sur place which, this year, extends its program over four days, from August 24 to 27. The principle is simple: a square, halle Saint-Volusien, place du Cdt Robert or placette du Léo, and in its center the concert of a French-speaking artist in the making. The duo Baldango, Les Grandes bouches, Hélène Piris and Vaslo will be on the programme, preceded by aperitif-concerts at the start of the evening. Some will meet the inhabitants of the city center, while a current music course will bring together around ten musicians before a concert in the Saint-Volusien hall on Saturday. A nice note to (almost) end the summer.
